Making biking cheaper for all -Tips
« on: March 08, 2010, 06:00:05 PM »

Not thinking, £20 lid, £50 leathers but rather tips you have come across that are cheap alternatives to more expensive biking products

Like: using Paraffin to clean your chain. Wurth chain cleaner £4.99 for 500 mls ( I use this and very good stuff)

But Paraffin is approx £4-5 for 5Ltrs. ( also does a great job)

So what Tips can you suggest to make biking cheaper?  BEERZ

dunno whether it fulls under this catoregory

well pre obvious but put decent fuel in your tank.
me and a mate from work done our own little test. Have tried all the different types of fuel on the market from supermarkets to SHELL/BP etc

Found that if you use the v-power from shell or equvilant from BP (it may be more expensive but as it has more additives its not only more beneficial for your engine but have got more miles out a tank).

Not talking just for bikes here, but tried it with cars also. Hell the tests werent mimicked with every mile and people may say its unfair test blah blah blah. But personally found that you will get more miles from the higher octane stuff.

try it and see.

A mate with a good tool set and tyre machine works wonders for saving money  C:C:C

oh... how do i get a tip then   ::)

Biggest tip has to be.. don't crash... its cheaper !    ROL:

Change your fuel filter when you do a minor service helps fuelling and rough running.

Change oil and filter long before its due, or do a double oil filter change every 2nd change after riding the bike for 3 - 4 hours....

You'd be suprised how filthy the 2nd flush of oil is and it helps the bike engine last longer.

Baby wipes.

Great for cleaning visors and leathers, causes no damage and a dammed sight cheaper than some of the big name cleaning products (and works a dammed site better $%%%)

hard surface wipes from work wouldnt leave a smear on your visor, and very cheap  ( $%%% )
but as they are alcohol based i dont know if they would be suitable for anti fog layers on visors.

On the contrary, they actually clean without smears, although I do tend to just buff up the visor with a soft cloth, more through habit than anything.

The beauty is that if you don't use tear off's, baby wipes soften and dissolve bugs and flies rather than a conventional cleaner which for want of a better term tend to "Drag" the bugs off.

I have used them for years now, always have a small pack tucked in my tank bag and I would not use anything else now!
