Brakes Whats Good Enough ?
« on: March 01, 2010, 07:55:42 PM »

The past month i seem to have overhauled about 10 - 12 sets of brakes or fitted new lines for people..

Now i have to say i hav ebeen genuinely shocked at how bad some peoples brakes have been..

Some examples..

Double pump to get any pressure and also warped discs  shkd  hes a nutter  !

Pull to the bar and only just gain some pressure so minor that i think stopping was reliant on the rear brake.

6 pots with 400 grams of copper slip over the pots the pads and old hoses from 1997

Pads with ZERO friction material

1 Bike with a flat brake line so clearly split

a set of 6 pots with half a pound of normal grease over everything !!!!!  i do mean everything.

3 sets with scored pistons - use of mole grips.

One set with BENT pads

and several more with other err... scary conditions..

Voted 3 as the brakes on Bonnie are really bloody good even for a single disc with 2 pots!
Even 2 up they still perform just as well, I think its a combination of tyres/pads that are o.e fitted.

2 fingers has been forced on me by the small levers and Hein Gericke 2 fingererd gloves.

Grab and hope is not good as all braking should be progressive to allow the suspension to compress and the tyre to spread out on the road as pressure is applied.

an easy 2 fingers is what i would consider acceptable.

however i think brake feel is as important as power, the setup on the Street R is absolutely superb, its the same discs and calipers as last years Daytona 675 with braided hoses as standard $%%%
