Earlier in the year you do them the cheaper they are. Or late in the year the prices come down again.

But too early in the year and they all get cancelled!!!

With regards to the improving riding...I think it's a totally different style of riding to road-riding.  I did my first trackday last year with the intention of improving my road-riding and raising my confidence...bu t it had the opposite effect on my confidence on the road...I feel like there are lorries nad potholes everywhere!!!  And although my track-riding improves with each trackday I do...I go steadily more and more off road-riding...maybe the nice weather and some good company will change my mind...but right now I'd far rather be on a track!

Track riding is different and much more fun than riding on the road. It has improved my road riding but im just as happy riding slower on the road than i did before i went on track.

Whilst its true Track riding is safer for the faster rider who likes to take risks , its not necessarily  a safer place to ride for those who are careful riders. WHY? Well the safe rider rides well within his/her capabilities on the road , positions themselves at the correct place for bends with a good view and adjusts speed accordingly, will be completely aware of his/her surroundings and whats going on, will always anticipate the worst and be aware when it happens (within reason).

The same person comes on a track day and rides a little faster but not as fast as some of the complete idiots who treat trackdays as a race (and theres at least one every session ive ever attended) this person will invariably cut you up and take risks on corners, you will also get a few riders all taking a corner at the same time, causing some less experienced riders to alter their line or even panic.

This makes in  THIS instance the track more dangerous, I find I am MORE likely to come off on track than I am on the road, On the road Im OK not crazy fast but not slow ive had a few near misses but because I've anticipated I've not come a cropper. On the track I would ride a lot faster because of the lack of obstacles, and in any event its been said on here exploring the capabilities of your bike means, you don't know how far you can lean until you run out of lean !! Then you know the limit But will you remember how far over you were ? I doubt it!!

thats a good way of putting it..

i've thought that a few times.. but inters is better for this than novice and less people are new to the racing line or make silly mistakes..  but then you go out in fast group and theres teh same difference between "racers" and fast riders the risks are bigger and faster..

Noice and fast are the worst groups to be in i think  BEERZ

Wherever we ride there are risks.  We can be as safe as we can, but are human and will make mistakes sometimes.  We can anticipate other road/track users actions but unless we're psychic, they will surprise us sometimes.  We minimise the risks as much as we can but cannot eliminate all risks.  These are risks we are prepared to take to enjoy our bikes.  The good rider is the one who rides well within his/her capabilities and has consideration for others as well as him/herself.  The adrenalin rush is part of the attraction...it's why I used to go rock-climbing, why I've caved...and it's one of the reasons why I ride...

Stay safe.
